Skipping breaks all day isn't realistic, and it isn't necessary either. Here's the routine we use to reset before a stressful meeting or after a long stretch of focused work.
1. Notice the tension first (30 seconds)
Check your shoulders, jaw, and hands. If they're tight, your stress level is higher than you've consciously registered — that's your cue to reset.
2. Grab your fidget toy (a few seconds)
Keep a roller or stress ball within reach at your desk so this step takes zero extra effort.
3. Give it your full attention for 2 minutes
Spin it, press it, roll it between your fingers — actually focus on the motion and the feeling rather than doing it on autopilot while staring at a screen.
4. Take a few slow breaths (1 minute)
Pair the movement with slower breathing — the combination calms your nervous system faster than either one alone.
5. Get back to it with a clear head (ongoing)
You don't need a long break to reset — just a few focused minutes, repeated through the day before stress builds up.
None of this requires special planning once it's a habit — just five minutes between tasks, and you get through the day without the burnout.
